March Update
Time for one of those update thingies straight out of my virtual pen. Excuse me, got carried away a bit there. A fair bit has been happening both music and DJ wise so for those that care I’ll bring you up to speed…
Snaggletooth by JOKR is the latest release from Kiss My Bass and came out this week with my remix on it. It’s hard to know exactly how it’s doing but it’s currently charting at Beatport and Juno as well as being a featured release at Track It Down, thanks to the excellent Ben & Lex remix. I’ve finished a remix for Ape Music, the label run by the aforementioned Ben & Lex and I’m pretty happy with it. It’s a track by Prosper & Old Skool Nemo Vs Benjamin Vial (phew!) called Bad Bwoys. It’s gone in for mastering which is just as well as it definitely needs a few tweaks after repeated listens. Track wise though I reckon I’ve turned it into a pretty catchy dance floor tune but we shall see what people think when it gets out there.
The other remix I’ve finished is for Myagi’s Pop & Lock label, a remix of Be Strong by Groovy Cuvy & Bennie Leung. Yes we’re going for the long artist names at the moment! It had a pretty strong vocal which I’ve cut into and distorted somewhat and this one is less catchy and more, erm, grindy? Stuttering noises and plenty of bleeps are the order of the day. I’m also currently working on a remix for Filthy Rehab which will be given away for free as part of the next Kiss My Bass release but I’ll keep that under wraps for now.
Original music wise work has begun on constructing tracks for an EP which will hopefully feature the vocal talents of Whipcrack (who featured on my Fat Loan EP for Nitrous Records) and Spitfire (local MC looking to get all over some recordings). I’m also considering mining some older unofficially released tracks for ideas as it seems a bit of a waste and there’s some good bits in there.
The main difference from my last update is the DJ bookings. I always play plenty locally in Southsea but have found it relatively hard thus far to break out. This looks like it’s slowly changing: April I will be playing at the debut of Analogue at Brighton’s legendary Volks. Live DnB in the main room with a handful of us representing practically anything with a bassline in room 2. My other big booking is for the Secret Garden Festival in Huntingon in July. I’ll be playing early evening on the Saturday on Eddy Temple Morris’s stage The Remix Bubble, named after his XFM show. I’m pretty stoked about this one as no doubt it’ll be much fun and is the weekend after Glade so means I’ll be a proper festival kid this year (minus the kid bit). Other local gigs include playing the opening night at new venue The Kraken Wakes, a venture in which Lewis @ Sumo/Kry Wolf is heavily involved. I’ll also be playing at the same venue supporting Subsource.
Thanks for your time, until April: peace!
